Kooky Coconut is my sole reason for loving Indian Rocks beach. Ok, fine, that's probably an exaggeration since it's a lovely beach--but the fact that this AMAZINGLY YUMMY place is such an easy walk from the beach is what keeps me coming back again and again. They have everything I could want from a hole in the wall beach bar (off the beach). Cold craft beer and wine, local ice cream, and super super tasty food. My favorites, although to be honest I haven't really branched out, are the coconut shrimp, the Tampa Cuban, and their fries. It. Is. So. Good. With outdoor seating (perfect if you're wet) and even a few indoor tables, it's a great way to take a break from the beach. They even have their own parking lot for while you are eating, and best of all it is walking distance from the public beach access--by beach! I love love love this place...it doesn't feel like a beach day without a stop at the Kooky Coconut!

Kooky's does not look like much while passing, but I am a fan of their little place. At a glace they offer burgers, as well as tacos, burritos and quesadillas. But what our real interest was ... homemade ice cream. Visiting from Alaska and Illinois, my husband's family rented out a house on IRB. After we would grill on the beach for dinner, we would walk to Kooky Coconut for ice cream. The inside is a bit tight for a group and looked a little ragged, however they do have an outside seating option as well. I typically indulged in the Cookie Monster ice cream. This included blue vanilla ice cream with cookie dough and crushed Oreos. During the evening, the light breeze off the water, while enjoying ice cream and being in each others company was the best part of our nights!

This place is an absolute jewel! Anytime I come to Tampa; I hit the beach. Indian Rock beach is my preference because of Kooky Coconut. Where do you go for a nice Cuban or coconut shrimp? .... Here. There is plenty of outside, shaded seating. This is best for a walk off the beach place for lunch, snack, or dinner. Their drink selection of bottles and cans is impressive for the size of the restaurant. Don't forget to plan for the ice cream or milkshake that seems to be a requirement of beaching.

Funky, fun little beach snack shack serving good Cuban sandwiches and Tacos. If you need a quick lunch stop at the beach, this is it. Can eat indoors in A/C or outside tables to enjoy the breeze.

Long time Indian Rocks Beach tradition. The Ice cream is the best on the beach by far.

Parking is a total nightmare! But once inside, you are greeted with a smile and over whelmed with options! Its a small place, they have an ice cream counter, about a dozen flavors, they offer bar food / seafood Coconut shrimp and also self serve bottles of beer from a cooler! Theres about 10 tables out back, and 3 tables inside. The older woman behind the counter was so friendly and welcoming. She offered free samples of the ice cream before ordering. My nephews got thier choices, plain vanilla with rainbow sprinkles and Super Man, which is dyed all sorts of different colors! I got the captains butterscotch! It was like cookies and cream ice cream with a huge butterscotch swirl! oh my god soo good! check this place out -- ice cream was delish and the other sandwhiches and bar food looked terrrific! We found this little place while on vacation in tampa - Indian Rocks Beach! Check it out! I took a star off due to horrible parking !

Small spot just off Indian rocks beach. (Family owned and operated) I always get the island Cuban and add pickles and there special mustard/mayo sauce on top of everything that is already on the island Cuban. It's always good. My favorite thing however is the toasted coconut ice cream. It's the best ice cream I've ever had... Right next to cold stones cake batter. ****highly recommend the toasted coconut ice cream**** Service is good/quick Take out is good. Prices are fair.

You simply cannot come to Indian Rocks Beach and not visit this gem. I am a huge fan of dives, and a huge fan of The Kooky Coconut. The staff here is always friendly and fast. Even when they are busy, service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The ice cream here ranges from the old standbys to the utterly strange. My favorites are the toasted coconut, cotton candy, and superman. There were so many choices I ran out of time. The food here is off the charts good. I love Cuban sandwiches and theirs are the best I have ever had! If your looking for something different, you have to try the walking taco. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. A crushed bag of Doritos with ground beef and the toppings inside the bag. It is just amazing, not to mention fun! They have outside seating which makes you feel like you have been transported to the Caribbean. You can also walk across the parking lot and right on the beach. They have some red chairs where you can enjoy your treats and watch the spectacular sunset. Don't give it a second thought. Stop by!

Hidden gem! Stop the car! We drove past this treasure because we thought it looked too small to accommodate our family of 5. It has a charming, good sized patio on the side and back that has ample seating. The lady working was sweeter than pie and was patient with our children who were not thrilled to have to eat a delicious lunch before having one of their many unique flavored homemade ice creams. They also have delicious soft serve ice cream. Very affordable! I had a lunch special of two tacos ( which were as good as homemade) with chips and salsa for $4.79. Great food, great prices, great service!!!! We will be regulars!

What a great little place. Not fancy, but has a little character. The food is outstanding. Our party had burritos, quesadillas, and the chicken fingers. All was simply made and customizable. The portions are fine for a filling lunch and it all tasted great. Affordable.

On our last visit this past year the experience was not as great. The food was good as usual but the wait was way too long. We called in our order ahead of time and were told 20 minutes. Once we arrived we had to wait almost an hour longer to get the order. It was a weekday afternoon and the place was jam packed with people waiting to get their food. Which is a good sign that they are so popular but be prepared to wait.

Kooky Coconut is the best thing on the planet. Great ice cream Yummy food (best Cuban sandwiches anywhere) Friendly staff Free wifi No shirt, no shoes, no problem. Take your ice cream and go sit in the chairs on the beach and watch the sunset.

Yeah so this place was just OK food-wise. I forgot exactly what I ordered but it was some kind of BIG burrito thing with the refried beans inside the wrap. It was OK. There was a lot of ice cream and I probably should have gotten some of that as it looked positively yummy. I love the atmosphere and the proximity to the beach. I felt like I was in a Beach Boys video eating here. I'm not going to knock the food because it was hot out and I was eating a hot burrito. Like I said, shoulda gone for the cold stuff. Next time. I will go back and retry the Kooky.

This review is only from our one visit last week. We stopped for by dessert after reading about their toasted coconut ice cream. This is a tiny little place along the main road that runs along the coast. There is parking in the back. We both got a scoop of their toasted coconut ice cream - one in a waffle cone and one in a cup. Total was around $8 or $9. So a bit more expensive than we'd typically pay for ice cream, but it was really good and from a nice local place. Worth it. After we bought our ice cream we went to eat it while walking on the beach to watch the sunset. According to the girl who checked us out we could leave our car in their parking area for an hour while we walked the beach. They are a very short walk from the beach - just through their parking area and more parking for residents who live right on the beach.

Indian Rocks Beach is the lucky owner of this little beach snack cafe. The menu is pretty simple (don't let that photo of their menu in the photo section make you think otherwise, it must be outdated bc they didn't have 75% of what was listed there) and the things they do serve are solid. I got the veggie burger which was a brown rice patty with loads of veggies on top. Typical burger veggies but they didn't blink when I said double up on the tomatoe, pickle, jalapeno, onions, and lettuce. They also have a huge selection of hot sauces and different mustards which was more exciting to me than it probably should have been (chipotle! lime infused! roasted garlic!). The other vegan option was a create your own burrito which may have been a better choice, and I'll get that next time. My husband ordered their Island Cuban which was featured on a local "cuban sandwich" hunt and it looked fantastic. Definitely not traditional (though they have one on the menu), it leaves out pickles and subs in pesto for the mayo mustard combo. The meat on the sandwich looked good and there was plenty of pulled pork (not sliced pork). He wasn't hungry all day after lunch, super filling. He gave it two thumbs up. The guys behind the counter were super nice, and the casual outdoor eating space (there are two tables inside) was shaded and a great retreat if you are hanging at the beach all day.

Had the Tampa Cuban sandwich and it was delicious! Nice and crispy on the outside, and soo tasty! Friendly service. I would definitely go back!

Came here for a quick bite. Had the chicken tacos. Came with chips and salsa, which was in a plastic container and cold from the fridge. I normally prefer my salsa at room temperature. But other than that, food was pretty good. Very casual atmosphere and the price was reasonable. If I come back here, I'll definitely have to try one of the Cubans. Staff are very friendly and nice.

An absolute favorite! Love this place and always visit when I come to Indian Rocks. The food is awesome, just off the beach, ice cream is the BEST (better than Italy) and the staff are always super friendly. Everyone should definitely visit here when in the local area.

I have been here a few times to try various things, the island Cuban is pretty amazing, and it is a nice small building with a few tables inside and a few outside. They have Working Cow ice cream which is if you have not had it, the best tasting ice cream you will have. They have multiple flavors line toasted coconut which is really good! Also an expresso chip one I love. The staff is nice. Some more then others however that is to be expected. Very few places right on IRB to choose from so this is a must to give it a try after a hot day on the beach. The only reason I dock them a star is because they are not very good with having food ready when you come to pick it up. I would suggest this place to anyone that is looking for a place close to the beach, it is not too expensive and the food is actually pretty good. Just do not expect fancy interior or food.

Just had ice cream cones here. I love the ambience! It's quirky and fun and I'm hoping to get back to try a cuban sandwich before my vacation is over.

Best ice cream I have ever tasted in my life. This is the best around. Recommend getting anything chocolate coconut. Love this place for a stop after a long walk on the beach : )

We come to Indian Rocks Beach annually and the Kooky Coconut is a must-have! Once inside, the service is amazing and so is the ice cream! The double fudge brownie is a must-try. I have a dairy allergy and I am able to get their sorbet, which is delicious! The building is accessible from the beach, it's great to be able to walk down the beach to get ice cream. Next time you come to Indian Rocks Beach you must come here. Great food, great service, and great location!

  • Natalee F.

I won't talk about the pressed Cubans here and how delicious they are since everyone else has already covered that - but I will mention how they'll make a vegetarian version, even though it's not on the menu. They also have many other vegetarian options - burritos, tacos, etc. The 2 teens working there were very friendly and helpful and enthusiastic. The outdoor seating area is nice and breezy, but no view of the beach. They do have designated beach chairs to sit in if you take a walk up toward the ocean, which is a nice touch. The chips and salsa weren't exactly what I was expecting, since the salsa is totally canned - I think they just pour out some Old ElPaso. The star of the show is the ice cream - it's some sort of small company that only sells locally, to FL vendors. I got the salted caramel with caramel topping. Whoa. I'm glad I don't live near this place, because I think I'd become addicted and eat it every day. If you go for no other reason, go for the ice cream.

Stopped by here twice during a family trip to IRB. First time was for some tacos, chips and quac... All good, nothing if write home about though. I do think the chips were a lil stale or gross from the humidity. Bright side to the first trip, I did enjoy my homemade frozen lemonade! It hit the spot. Then we came back for ice cream and there wasn't a complaint from the group. Salted caramel, strawberry, creamsicle.. All were tasty.

Love this place! Fantastic gem in IRB. Excellent Cubans, local ice cream and just off the beach for a quick bite. Check them out!

  • Josh S.

From the Island Cuban to the Tampa Cuban, your not going to find a tastier sandwich on the beach for the price these guys are offering. Definitely the best deal on the beach by far! Tip: Call your order in, it'll save you a crowded wait.

  • S T.

This place is such a hidden gem. When I used to live down here, I stumbled upon it one night and have loved it ever since. They make the best Cubans ever! The fries are awesome, too. It's such a small and cozy nook. It's perfect beach food. The menu is small and they do every item quite well. I always order the island Cuban Because I love pesto. We only came for the Cubans today, but the ice cream was just callin our names. I had the salted caramel praline with nuts and my Grama had toasted coconut. Delish! The woman that owns the place is so sweet. Easy to talk to, very friendly and accommodating.

Casual, beach, just steps away from the beach at Indian rocks. Hand dipped ice cream. Great tacos.

  • Dan V.

Had hot pressed Cubans and some drinks here. Food was decent. Spent about $30. Spent ten minutes at "their "beach area. Then they left a nasty note on my car window about the parking space not being for the beach and they had me on camera and a record of me being in there! Left a bad taste in my mouth. Won't go back!

  • Skye L.

Amazing! Don't let the size or appearance misguide you. Cuban sandwich was the best I've had, and I've eaten Cubans from all over. The mojo pork was so flavorful! The crab cake sandwich was perfect. It was very lightly fried and heavy on the crab. Delightful! Also tried the corn dog and soft pretzel. Skip those. Focus on the main dishes and you won't be disappointed.

  • Kirk M.

You might wait 15+ minutes to eat, but trust a fat guy when I say it's worth it. Excellent Cuban sandwiches (tried both varieties), amazing ice cream and a beach front feel. Again, if you're not in a hurry (and on Indian Shores, you really shouldn't be), this place is a must try.

    (4)
  • Mags L.

The Tampa Cuban does not disappoint. Found this gem on the last day of my trip, if only I had discovered Kooky Coconut earlier!

  • Janel C.

My husband saw this place while we were on vacation. He kept telling me he wanted a Cuban sandwich. I kept laughing him off. He kept persisting. I finally gave in. Now I wish I had given in sooner! The food was delicious! The ice cream was even better! Perfect lunch for a day at the beach. The staff was very friendly. Definitely check this place out! (Call ahead if you are in a rush. They get busy at lunch time, but worth the wait!)

Excellent place to go each night on vacation. The kids love it. We did not try their sandwiches yet but will hopefully for lunch our last day.

Tampa Cuban was spot on! Really good. Service was excellent. My daughter said the veggie burger tasted weird (she said it was probably her own fault for getting Swiss cheese on it). They serve beer and have outside dining. Good experience. Would come back again for sure :)

Love this beach snack shop! Love their chairs on the beach. Love their ice cream. Love love love everything about it. Beer. Hot dogs. Cones.

  • Marina R.

The Cuban's here are the bomb! The bread is pressed to perfection, the mojo pork is delicious and filling. It was definitely a little messy to eat but that's how I knew they were doing it right. They unfortunately forgot the pickles (I asked for them) which are my fave and typically a staple of the Cuban sandwich but it was still sooooo good. The woman at the front counter wasn't the friendliest but who cares as I was ordering takeout. My sister ordered a scoop of their homemade mocha almond ice cream to go- very good too. We sat out back in the cute little tropical hangout they created while we waited. I loved how they called your name out over the speaker so you'd know when your meal is ready for pickup. I would 100% return next time I'm in town visiting my family, the sandwiches are too good.

Went back a few times while on vacation again this summer and it was as good as i remembered . Their cuban sandwich is the best I have had ! The ice cream is fantastic as usual also ! I have only been back home for one day and already miss this place . Cant wait till next year so I can go back !

Locally owned awesome beach place. Food is better than most around the area. Super nice staff. Highly recommended- trust me I'm a professional fatty.

Stopped in and had the Cuban sandwich for lunch. This place has a cool vibe but I wouldn't say kooky! The sandwich was really good but unfortunately it was a little light on meat, coulda used some more. Maybe it was just the cook that time. Sat outside by the beach and listened to Jack Johnson on their radio so over all it was a pretty good lunch. I would def go back.

Great Cubans! Good food for pretty cheap and a great location if you need a break from the beach. Close location from our condo and a good place to grab a quick bite.

What a find!! This place caught our eye as we were driving up and down the strip between st Pete beach & Clearwater. We made a point to stop for some ice cream! My kids and I loved it! Decent selection of Ice cream- about 10 or more flavors. I had toasted coconut & almond joy for my sundae. Yum!!! Huge sundae & my kids come & cups were pretty large too for a really great price! They also have regular lunch/dinner food like sandwiches and some Mexican food. We didn't have that because we had already eaten but it smelled and looked delicious. The staff was super friendly. The decor was cute. A small little place but it has room in the back for outdoor seating so that allows plenty of seating for at least up to 50 or so people. It's steps away from the beach too! They also had a few "gift/souvenir" items, like shells & knickknacks, also for cheap. I chatted with a local and this is the place they love to visit regularly! That's the sign of a good business!! Make sure to stop in and try some food

Burrito bowl was so-so but that's not their specialty. My friend got the crab cake sandwich and liked it a lot. Overall, great location by the beach and decent food for the price!

I'm honestly not sure how this restaurant is so highly rated. It's not awful, but it's not great either. 3 stars is probably accurate but generous in my opinion. The location is convenient and it has curb appeal. The menu is limited, but that's to be expected from a snack shop. They feature their Cuban sandwiches. Go for the traditional one. The Island Cuban has pesto, which is an interesting twist. I'm pretty adventurous but it didn't work for me. I ate about a third before giving up. The rest of the menu is typical mediocre stuff, at inflated prices. A plain hot dog with a 1 oz bag of chips is $3. Same with a corn dog is $5. The ice cream is from a local dairy which is a nice touch. But I prefer Publix ice cream honestly. The inside of the restaurant is kitchy and needs repair and cleaning. It would make things much better if the kitchen had adequate ventilation hoods, but it doesn't, so the whole dining room reeks of frying oil and you will too once you leave. For 4 of us to order a drink, a sandwich, tiny bag of chips and a single scoop of ice cream each, it cost $50. We also waited at leaat 15 minutes for our food, so they are not kidding about the 15 to 20 minute wait. My husband and i both work in the restaurant business and there's nothing we ordered that should have taken this long. Oh well. We would have been better off eating lunch at our condo.

  • Iris F.

We found this joint by Yelp. We honestly wouldn't have stopped for lunch otherwise. It's like they say, don't judge the book (place) by it's cover. The food here is very good! Portions enough to be full. We had tacos and crab cakes. It is tiny and the outdoor seating is somehow cool, even if it is shabby. Sit on the backside, not frontside by the street. Don't eat here if you tend to be anxious when things are slow! Like the sign says "Chill out, it takes time to prepare your meal". Be prepared to wait 20 minutes for the fast food... (the guy preparing the meals, really takes his time!) They call your name in speakers when your meal is ready, but it is awfully hard to hear what name they call, at least if you are seated by the road. Especially since you have to wait a long time, you think every call is for you. They are famous for their Cuban sandwiches, didn't try them though. Doesn't accept AMEX.

My new favorite local place in Indian Rocks. My husband and I were looking for a place to grab a sandwich or something to keep from driving across one of the causeways to a franchise place like Mickey D's or something. Caught this place out of the corner of my eye and we turned around. I AM SO GLAD WE DID. Their cuban sandwiches rivaled anything I have had in Miami. My husband was very impressed. They have different sizes and prices for their Cubans as well as a variety of type of Cubans. We had the Tampa. Delicious! They serve a bag of chips with their sandwiches. I wish they would offer fries or onion rings but I would assume they don't because of space. They offer indoor/outdoor seating. Also they have unique flavors of ice cream. My first opportunity to have toasted coconut ice cream and that is my new love. Slow your roll and definitely give this place a try. You won't be sorry.

  • Danielle T.

I love this place. The Tampa Cuban is by FAR the best Cuban I've ever had! They roast their own pork in house, and it shows in the flavor. Definitely save room for their homemade ice cream. I had the salted caramel, and it was very very delicious. My fiancé got the key like pie and loved it. The atmosphere is so cute. It's a tiny place with a cute patio right by the water on IRB. Absolute winner.

  • Mikkel T.

Great for a meal or ice cream. The kids loved it and there is seating inside or out. Parking in back reserved for you. We grabbed lunch one day and came back for ice cream another day. Coconut shrimp, crab cakes, hot dogs and Cubans and everyone was happy with the serving size and flavors. Check out the specials too- a very reasonable and filling lunch. Staff is very friendly too!

Great atmosphere, even better food. Service is always solid and quick as well. I love stopping in for dinner and a beer on the patio and then walking (about 100 ft) on to the beach to catch the sunset. Tried almost everything on the menu, it's all gooooood! You can't go wrong with the Island Cuban + side of rice and black beans. I've turned into a regular.

    (5)
  • Stephanie S.

This place was delicious, the meats all taste deli fresh and the Cuban was really tasty. The taco we shared was even good, which surprised me being as I thought this was a sandwich type place, but they established an eat worthy hybrid assortment of foods and had some pretty awesome ice cream. The location was really pretty and the customer service was phenomenonal! Couldn't ask for more for a cheap eat vacation pit stop :)

Amazing place. Ice cream is of course great but you can dine beach side! Great patio location too. They have awesome crunchy tacos too!

If you want an authentic Cuban this is not the place. If you want a delicious pressed sandwich with scrumpshish pork and flavor then this is the place for you!! Island Cuban is so good!

One of my new go-to places, this beach foodery offers all things good on a beach day: ice cream, burgers, nachos and burritos. They have Working Cow Ice cream, a local company that makes DELICIOUS salted caramel. They also sell ice, beer and other beach day necessities. Plus, an excellent outdoor seating area. Try the veggie burrito!

  • Michele M.

We have been coming to IRB for the past 5 years and never miss a visit (or three) to Kooky Coconut! We have only come for the ice cream, not the food, but it is a family favorite. The coconut has always been my favorite until I met Salted Caramel. To.Die.For. The only bad thing about the salted caramel is they run out. I may have called before we stopped to make sure they had it :)

    (5)
  • Prudence T.

The Kooky Coconut is one of our favorites! We typically go here once a week on the weekend for lunch and sometimes ice cream. The atmosphere is amazing, always have good music playing, the food is great too! We have never had anything here that was just okay, its always great. I usually get the veggie burger or the veggie tacos. We will eat, grab some drinks and walk up to the beach for an hour or two, its one of my favorite weekend places. Usually when we try a new place I always think that its not as fun as the coconut!

    (5)
  • Kim O.

Great beach burger! They grill them to order and put lots of cheese which makes me happy! No fries, but they come with chips, which is ok. The best thing is they have a ton of ice cream flavors to choose from for dessert. They have working cow ice cream and I think it's a better quality than most. Tried the salted caramel which was a very interesting flavor, and the classic cookies and cream which was very good. Great place to go for lunch or a snack after a day at the beach.

  • Vikas A.

Quaint little shop with a great selection of ice cream very close to the beach. The hot fudge brownie sundae was amazing and hit a spot.

  • Kathy D.

This little spot is right on the corner near a walkway towards the beach. I tried their homemade butter pecan ice cream. "Homemade" to me felt like this was going to taste totally awesome. -- WRONG! I should of done a taste test firs!, stupid me -_- But "Homemade" fogged my mind. It was chalky and gross and I barely even made a dent to it. I had to throw it away because each taste was just torture. I was soooo disappointed. I don't think I'd ever want to try homemade butter pecan ice cream again!

Just had lunch with my wife here. We both got the tampa cubano...awesome..price is perfect..the (9 inch is plenty for two..and will fill up anyone 8.50..will be back to try other specials...owners are very nice and helpful..do not miss this place

  • Acelyn B.

Craving for ice cream and we find this little spot. I was amazed that they served ice cream, cuban sandwiches, and tacos. What a variety! Lots of flavors to choose from, and they had a version of my favorite, espresso chip. Craving satisfied. I'll have to go back some day to try their food.

If you are beachside and need a snack or a quick lunch this is a good stop. Items are pricy and service is friendly, not fast. My husband and I took our two children here (7 & 10) for lunch and spent $50. The Tampa Cuban was delish!

  • Katelyn B.

This place is soooo cute! Yessir king is limited but we walked from the beach. We had a party of nine people so it took thirty minutes to get our food with one cook and one guy taking ordered but that's because this place is slammed with to go orders! They have amazing Cubans!! The food is so good. No fries though just chips with your main entree. The prices are high considering they have almost no overhead but hey it's a tourist place! The service was slow but they warned us about that when we ordered so it was fine. We even went back in for ice cream which is terrific!!! I had a shake but tried the coconut ice cream and it was divine! They even serve beer here! Only canned or bottled soda, no fountain soda. I enjoy this place every time I got to Indian rocks beach and recommend it. Maybe you can be daring enough to try the Island Cuban! I wasn't.

We stopped here for Cubans since we saw other yelp comments say it was good and found out about it from yelp! It was an excellent call! Their Cubans Are AWESOME!!! Service was was great and speed of order was perfect. I tried the Tampa Cuban and loved it- my cousin tried the island Cuban and loved it!

Decided to stop in and try their hotdogs. The bad thing is they don't have chili for the hotdogs. They have burger for taco and it would be easy to make the chili. Can't have a hotdog so we tried 2 soft beef tacos. They were tasty with black beans, lettuce, tomato and salsa. Special was $4.25 for 2 tacos, chips and salsa. Salsa was from a jar but the tacos were tasty. May stop just for ice cream next time.

This place is awesome! The decor is so cute and the blueberry cheesecake ice cream is some of the best that I've ever had! I was also pleasantly surprised to see multiple vegetarian options on their food menu! I didn't try any this time, but I would definitely try it in the future! Staff is very sweet and helpful.

Went out for dinner at IRB sushi and wanted some dessert and found this place on a Yelp search. The place is small and warming and they seem to have a nice selection of ice cream. I had a Reese's peanut butter milkshake which are 2 of my favorite things and my wife had moose tracks ice cream which was just as good. If we are ever in the area again we will surely stop in and try some more of their excellent ice cream

I'm thinking this place has the best toasted coconut ice cream. Then I discover they have burritos. I ordered a chicken burrito with all the fixins of course. Then I'm thinking I'm gonna get this little average sized sorta girly burrito, where they skim on the chicken and stuff it with 90% lettuce. Out came this HUGE stuffed man sized burrito. My eyes widen slowly as its being served to me. They don't skim on anything. It was amazing. The ice cream is yummy, and taste even better on a scalding hot day. On a Indian rocks beach day, I try to park close to kooky coconut where cold ice cream, cold beer, and giant burritos are just a reach away.

Awesome sandwiches and ice cream. Pretty solid Cuban sandwich, which is saying a lot coming from a Cuban. Highly recommend!

I am so excited to fine this little nook! I had their Toasted Coconut Ice Cream! It was out of this world! The texture wasn't super rich...it tasted something like you'd find in the Caribbean! They also serve Mexican dishes which I will be back to try! Yum can't wait!

Was just ok.....was wanting to try the toasted coconut ice cream everyone was raving about and as it turns out they were out of it. My bad luck. Would go back, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

Staying blocks away from this cute little spot, I visited twice during a recent vacation. The first for lunch on a Sunday. The place was quite busy with people sitting inside & out - many just walking off the beach. We ordered 2 classic Cuban sandwiches & 1 chic tacos. Food took a longer to make than was anticipated - about 20 min. Cubans were excellent - sliced ham, pulled pork, cheese, pickle, & mustard grilled to perfection. The tacos were nothing special. Meat quality was good but shredded lettuce/cheese were basic. They were missing something. Served with tortilla chips & salsa. I went back to KC for ice cream at about 8 pm. Great selection of ice cream. They advertise it as 'home-made', but clearly it's not made there. Ice cream was very good but the coolers are not cold enough!!! It's much too soft when served on a cone & eating the ice cream cone lost it's pleasure when it's melting faster than you can eat it. Adorable, little place that adds to the charm of IRB.

Very tiny place that is always packed and no place to park. Lots of screaming children running around everywhere with no supervision. Ice cream is pretty good but the service moves at a snails pace. It takes about 20 to 30 min just to get a scoop of ice cream. Plus, 5 bucks for a small little milkshake is rather absurd.

Don't underestimate this little hole in the wall! Had the Tampa Cuban and it really was as close as I think you can get to a perfect sandwich. Do yourself a favor and look this place up. Easily puts some of bigger, flashier places to shame!

Neat little hole in the wall. Very friendly people, reasonable prices. Stopped there last night for Ice Cream after dinner. Menu looked interesting so I thought I'd look it up on Yelp. Everyone that said go back for their Cubans was dead-on CORRECT! Grabbed 2 Island Cubans for lunch. Excellent. The meat was very tasty and the bread was a bit hard (like it's supposed to be) but not laborious as I've had with other Cuban Sandwiches. The staff was excellent. Relaxed for a few minutes while they fixed my sandwich. Will definitely go back next time we're in Indian Shores.

Excellent cuban sandwich. Expensive for the size of the sandwich, but they are on prime beach real estate.

Only had the toasted coconut ice cream and it was amazing!!! Tasted like a toasted coconut doughnut from Dunkin Donuts. The guy working the counter was very friendly! I recommend this place!

Fun little place to stop for lunch. We enjoyed sitting outside to enjoy our Cuban sandwiches and french fries,, and tuna salad stuffed avocados. They do sell beer, but you have to drink it in a cup, outdoors, which is easy enough to do. We also enjoyed their ice cream; I had the toasted coconut, and it was great. Good place for all ages, or to grab a bite to take to the beach, which is very close-by.

This place is an ice cream and convenient store located right on the beach. You can grab a six pack and take it right back to the house. Good solid little place with covered outdoor seating.

a bit out of the way, even though it is on the main drag in Indian rocks. Tried the Toasted Coconut and Strawberry ice cream. Both delicious. Next time, a sandwich!

(On the way from Oldsmar to Indian Shores via the scenic route) Me: I really want ice cream. Like REALLY want. Mom: Oh look, there's a Coldstone Me: Nah, not that... Like... good homemade ice cream with weird flavors Mom: I'm... not sure if you're going to find that (A few miles pass) Me: How does a tiny family-friendly beach town NOT have good ice cream somewhere?! Mom: Well, don't expect much out of these areas... Me: -pout- Mom: OH LOOK! TURN AROUND THERE'S ICE CREAM! This is a tiny little shack. Right next to the beach. I went in search of weird flavors and found them. I had some combination that tasted exactly like birthday cake. There were chunks of vanilla cake, blue icing, sprinkles, and it was amazing. I also tried smurf (blue raspberry with tiny marshmallows) and the coconut. They were all really, REALLY good. Who knew this little gem was 3 miles up the road from me? I'm really excited that I found it because it's hard finding places that make good unique ice cream flavors that don't have chocolate in them. I'll have to try their meal menu the next time I stop in. Two single scoops on sugar cones were less than $5. Hoorah!

The Cuban is truly the best I've ever had. It's a very unassuming little spot but worth the stop for a great sandwich!

Kooky Cocunut rocks! I try to stop by here every time I'm driving through Indian Rocks Beach. KC is located in a tiny building right on the corner of Gulf Blvd and 8th St. It's small enough that it's easy to miss if your not looking closely. But you won't want to miss it, as KC serves up a great mix of ice cream, sandwiches and treats, all in a classic setting of "funky Florida beach shack". Inside are only about 3 small tables, but there are plenty of picnic tables outside if the weather is nice. The beach is only a short walk away, and they even have their own chairs there that you can use for a short while during your visit. Nothing better than catching some rays and waves while enjoying your refreshments. All the staff I've met have been extraordinary friendly, and unless it's busy, are more than happy to chat and give you recommendations for anything you need in the area. They're also on Facebook ( facebook.com/pages/Kooky… ) and Twitter ( twitter.com/#!/KookyCoco… ), so you can stay connected and catch an occasional deal for their fans. Everything I've had here has been very good, especially the ice cream and their Island Cuban sandwich, their twist on the classic hot-pressed Cuban. As much as I like many of the well-made classic versions around Tampa, this sandwich stands up just fine to them for flavor and tasty goodness. They also have a good choice of cold beverages for those hot beach days, too. Prices are good for the quality. On a "classic beach shack" scale, I give Kooky Coconut: Atmosphere: 5 for it's classic beach shack vibe Service: 5 Food: 5 Value: 4 Note: Kooky Coconut has some prime parking in their lot available for their guests, considering the lack of street parking in the area and how heavily it's used by beachgoers. So during busy times, their staff police their parking lot strictly. If you pull in to park you may be approached to let you know it's their exclusive lot. They're not trying to be unfriendly, they're just trying to keep from towing folks that take up a valuable parking space for their day at the beach.

Kooky Coconut is the place to go for food and a bathroom break during a long day at the beach. Perfect for kids and adults... ice cream and beer. Food is pretty good, but patronage seems to be mostly like myself, just people looking for a good place to get in the shade and grab a bite to eat.

We actually found this place after typing in "best lunch" to yelp, looking out our car window and seeing the sign for the first place that popped up. Lucky us! Just before entering we became concerned as others had mentioned mostly Ice cream, but this place serves sandwiches as well. The selection is not extensive but we had the island cuban and it was delicious! We really love spots like these...without yelp I probably would not have looked twice but the sandwich was great, the food inexpensive, and the atmosphere relaxed. We'll be back since we have family with a condo nearby!

Stopped in for an after dinner treat. Good prices and good sized scoops. Cones were nice and fresh. I had the misnamed "Captain's Butterscotch." I could taste caramel, but not butterscotch. But who cares! It had brownie chunks, peanut butter cups, cookie pieces and toffee. I was in sugar shock the rest of the night. The ice cream is nice and creamy - just the right mouth feel to it. And it was fresh - very few ice crystals in the scoop, which is hard to do. Beach access right behind, which is nice. Have heard their sandwiches are tasty too, so I'll be back for a cuban!

This snowbird feels right at home at the Kooky Coconut. We have been going there for many, many years (it used to be the Tacky Turtle). Near a public parking beach access, it is ideal for us. We load up the van, and eat lunch and get drinks at Kooky. The grandkids can't wait until it's ICE CREAM TIME, but hubby loves their Cubans. They are friendly and accommodating and serve quality products. A wonderful Mom and Pop business that all should support. Love you Kooky!

Ice cream is great! For example, the krazy cake looks like the kind of ice cream I would never have (crazy colors for kids) but they've achieved Wonkalike perfection - it's ice cream that tastes like birthdayparty cake! Luckily, I had a kid who let me try hers otherwise I would've missed out. Panini are very good (especially ones with pork!) too. Burger and BLT not so good. Classic beach institution or deserves to be.

A little shack of a place, right off the beach. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, but we were there for theice cream- a dozen hand-made flavors, some of which you've never seen anywhere else.

The best thing on a hot summer day is homemade ice cream in a variety of unusual flavors you won't find anywhere else. Baskin-Robbins can keep their 31 flavors, because none of them are better than what you'll find at Kooky Coconut.

  • Adrienne V.

I went here just for ice cream after seeing the reviews about the great flavors but there wasn't nearly as much variety as I expected. They had 10, maybe 15 varieties and nothing really super out of the ordinary. I got the Key Lime Pie, which is not a flavor I'd normally choose, but I wanted something different. It was good, maybe a little too limey for my taste though. It's pretty close to my house so I'll probably go back when I'm down that way, but I was a little disappointed.
